Early identification and intervention for lymphoedema is recognised as the best course of action.
For some this means acquiring baseline lymphatic system outcome measurements prior to surgery (cancerous or non-cancer related), or cancer interventions.
Because early identification and intervention is of high importance, an assessment following surgery is recommended. This gives you the ability to act quickly, to minimise your risk of deterioration in the signs and symptoms lymphoedema is associated with.
Lymphoedema therapy can support you in achieving better long term outcomes.
Lymphoedema can occur in other surgical groups due to your past medical history, family history and due to the type of surgery you require. Additionally, your lymphatic system can be impacted following an injury or an accident.
Lymphoedema can also present as Primary or Mixed Lymphoedema, this means it is not related to physical trauma/injury/surgery or an accident.
